SRR Case Study
The Customer's Dilemma
Jutel (owners of the world famous RadioMan software) approached Transtel in 2004 to provide an end-to-end solution for Romania Radio (SRR). The journalists needed to create news stories from a variety of sources, work on stories together (including the translation of foreign stories), and on completion of the story, push it to RadioMan where it would be picked up automatically.
The Solution
The solution developed for SRR was Transtel's NewsManager for Radio to Transmit/Output the stories to a folder as NewsML (XML) using their standard Transmit feature.
News items can be transmitted with differing pre-defined text in certain IPTC fields so that the Radioman system can classify the incoming news as required. This pre-defined text can also be specified for different transmit address that go to the same location so that Radioman administrators/users can distinguish news that arrive (even though coming from the same folder)
How the Customer Benefited
NewsManager has been designed with editorial workflow in mind. This means that content transmission to Radioman can be controlled on a per-user basis. Journalists can reside in Editorial Groups and only Group Leaders/Chief Editors can have specific permissions to Transmit. Journalists can transfer news items to other users and also to their editors for approval. There is dedicated Transaction tracking of news items, revision history, Transmission history and many more editorial workflow features for controlling and monitoring the creation of content from start to end. NewsManager FrontDesk has many transcribe modes available for Radio Journalist to create their content for delivery to Radioman. FrontDesk has a built in media player with standard stop/start/pause features and with added foot controller, it is easy to transcribe media content to standard IPTC format.
